Photographic copy of McPherson's diary (April 27-Sept. 19, 1834) as an employee of the Hudson's Bay Company on a canoe trip from La Chine on the St. Lawrence River near Montreal, Quebec, to Portage la Loche (or Methye Portage) between the Athabasca and Churchill rivers in what is now northern Saskatchewan. He gives information on geography, portages, the fur traders and company posts visited, and the company's commercial practices. Sir George Simpson, governor of the Hudson's Bay Company, accompanied McPherson for part of the trip.
